From The Fire to The Throne

I am just a church boy at heart, raised on the south side of Chicago at his family’s church - Cluster Missionary Baptist Church, where he learned to play drums and found a love for music.

In my youth I remember walking the streets of Chicago, the sounds of the Blues heard through the tavern doors mixed harmoniously with the sound of Gospel music coming from the storefront churches on almost every other corner. “Those sounds were absorbed into my very being and became a part of me.” As a youth, under the guidance of my mother, father (the mailman as my family affectionately called him), Auntie Velma and my Uncle Reed (Reverend Robert Earl Green) I was taught to love, to give, to care for others, just as Christ exemplified.

I have been blessed to have sang, played drums and sax with local gospel artists and friends to include Bev Johnson My Praise, My Worship Music & Arts Ministry, and Minister Maharold Peoples and The Tribe of Praise to name a few.

I have served as a musician (sax and drums) at First A.M.E Church in Manassas, Virginia for many years and still hold them in his heart as a church family. Lavell is a long-standing member of and has been the primary drummer for the Mass Choir and Unity Choirs, Women’s Choir, Zionettes, Voices of Zion and occasionally the Men’s choir at the First Mount Zion Baptist Church of Dumfries, VA. #FMZBC www.firstmountzionbc.org
